Student/Parent FAQ

How do I register my child for Young Scholars?

Families can register their children using the Eventbrite links, on the Registration tab of the Young Scholars website. Please reference the Course Schedule tab for the complete list of available courses that will be taught for this summer's Young Scholars.

How much does each Young Scholars course cost?

If you are a parent and you wish to enroll your child in one course (morning OR afternoon, for either Week 1 or Week 2), the course fee is $525

If you are a parent and you wish to enroll your child in two courses, the course fee is priced individually at $500. Subsequently, two courses would total $1000.

Note: Not all courses are offered at the same timeslot, nor are they offered for both weeks. Please carefully review the Course Schedule PDF documents to make sure your children are properly enrolled in the course they want to take!

Does YSP offer refunds?

No, we do not offer refunds. Please carefully review the Course Schedule and registration directions to make sure your students are properly enrolled.

If your child is no longer able to attend their course, after paying registration fees, you are allowed to transfer enrollment to another child. Please email createysp@ucsd.edu for more details.

What is the policy regarding bringing food/drink for my student(s)?

Children are encouraged to bring their own food/drink, as none will be provided during the Young Scholars Program. They will be provided a lunch area to enjoy the food and beverages they bring with them. A separate designated area will be provided for childs with food allergies.

What is the administration of medication to students policy?

No Supervision or Administration
  • Staff will not supervise or administer any medication, including over-the-counter or regular medications.
Self-Administration Only
  • Students must be fully capable of self-administering their own medications (e.g., inhalers, EpiPens) without assistance.
Parent/Guardian Responsibilities
  • Parents must provide written authorization and ensure that their child understands how to properly use their medication.
  • Medications must be delivered to the program in their original, labeled packaging.
Medication Storage
  • Medications can be stored in a secure, accessible location designated by the program. Students must retrieve their medication independently when needed.
Emergency Protocols
  • If a student experiences a medical emergency, the director or trained staff member will respond using first aid, contact 911, and notify the parent/guardian immediately.
Communication with Parents
  • Parents will be informed of this policy at registration to ensure they understand the program’s limitations.

Are there any other materials/supplies my student should be bringing with them for their course?

Required course materials vary course-to-course. For technology courses, it may be necessary to bring WiFi-enabled devices (e.g., Chromebooks, Thinkpads, etc.)
